This exciting new topic began with an awesome trip to Sherwood Pines, where we enjoyed a variety of activities including pond dipping and going in search of the Gruffalo on the Gruffalo trail. The children used their experiences to apply this into their learning. We had lots of fun learning the Gruffalo song, using makaton sign language. We incorporated this into our artwork, looking closely at the features of a Gruffalo and painting specific body parts relating to the song eg. terrible teeth and purple prickles. The children worked on speech bubbles and role-played characters, giving the opportunity for the children to ask a ‘Gruffalo’ about their day and experiences. This enabled the children to use these ideas in their writing and they produced some excellent speech bubbles for various scenarios that the Gruffalo found himself in. We have also worked in our Foundation garden to produce some yummy treats. Our topic ended with a fabulous finale where the children got to show their work and sing songs to their parents during a foundation assembly.
It’s Creepy Critter season in the foundation stage. Foundation 2 had mini-creepy visit from Zoolab and met many interesting animals. The children were delighted to be able to ask questions about the animals that they met.
Then, the children welcomed our very own caterpillar nursery. The children learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly and made close observations of the stages of change.
Class 1 set up their own wormery and the children found an endless supply of worms to fill the tank! Did you know that worms can have up to 10 hearts? Inspired by keeping creepy critters in order to observe them, Harvey made his own ladybug tank and took very good care of it too.
We are looking forward to sharing out photo slideshow with the grown-ups at the end of this half-term.
This half term our topic has been all about Superheroes. The children have learned about helping to save our planet and the different ways we can do this, for example Recycle, Reuse and Reduce. Class 1 decided that we would reuse old paper and make some recycled paper. We also learned about looking after our bodies and making the right choices with healthy food and a healthy lifestyle.
In maths, we learned about recognising 2D and 3D shapes; looking at the shapes in our environment. We also began to talk about time and how to read and set clocks to the hour.
Our finale was amazing, our visitors, Spiderman and Supergirl, really helped the children to talk about their learning. The children told Spiderman that we should eat lots of fruit and drink water. The children really did have an amazing time.
Our teachers are Mrs Boston and Miss Gallagher. They are supported by Mrs Pritchard and Mrs Jackson. All of the adults are pleased with how well the children have settled into school life. During this half-term the children will be learning all about 'Marvellous Me'.
