We have thoroughly enjoyed our topic 'What makes Great Britain great?'. We started by learning about our local area, and then we found out about the 4 countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom. The children created beautiful portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, and have been really interested in the map work skills we have used in our Geography lessons. Our topic finale was a great success!
This term our topic has been Are you Afraid of the Dark? This began with an amazing visit from Guy Fawkes on our first day back at school who taught children all about the Gunpowder Plot. The children got to act out the story of the plot, and learn how to write secret messages once back at class. They used their learning to write Newspaper Reports and create Portraits of Guy Fawkes which can be seen in our class displays.
We then looked at the beautiful Story of the Owl who was afraid of the dark. Using Pi Corbett the children learned the story using actions which then helped them to retell this in literacy.
We have been busy mathematicians, learning to add and subtract, working with number bonds and are starting to learn how to tell the time.
Christmas is always a busy time of year in school and the children have worked extremely hard practising and learning songs for their performance. We have been writing to Santa explaining why Class 3 & 4 should be on the nice list and also looking at the story of the nativity.
Children have settled into year 1 so well and we are really proud of all their hard work this term. In autumn 1 we have been learning about ourselves, our bodies and using our senses.
We had a fantastic walk round Barkers Park where we went on a leaf hunt and collected lots of autumn treasures. Back in class we learned about deciduous and evergreen trees and labelled the different parts of trees. We have created some beautiful leaf rubbings and paintings and learned how to mix colours.
We have been busy mathematicians learning numbers to 100, 1 more 1 less than numbers adding and subtracting and number bonds.
In autumn 2 our topic is "Are you afraid of the dark? We have a very special visitor on our first day back to school to start our learning with a bang! We will looking at the history of Guy Fawkes and creating some firework poems and artwork. We will share the story The owl who was afraid of the dark and be preparing for Christmas with the nativity story and our Christmas performance.
Miss Jordan and Miss Warren are really excited to join their new classes as they head into Year 1. Miss Jordan is the Teacher in Class 3 and Mrs Kime is the Teaching Assistant. In class 4, Miss Warren is the Teacher and Ms Poskitt is the Teaching Assistant. During our transition we spent time getting to know each other and the children created some fabulous work which is displayed in the classrooms for you to see.
