Summer Term

 

Homework Tasks

 

You can help your child with their weekly tasks:

 

Learn weekly spellings

New spellings will be given on Friday and the children will be tested on them the following Friday.

You need to check your child’s weekly spellings and support them in learning them.

 

Reading their reading book

You child needs to read at least 3 times a week and have their diary signed. While they are reading you can ask questions about the content.

Practising Times tables

X2 x10 x5 x3 x4 x8

Help your child practise their times tables in order and randomly.

 

Project Tasks

This topic lasts for the whole of the Summer Term, in this time the children are expected to choose one activity from the list and complete with the help of their parents.

 

  • Research about a country in Africa.
  • Make pancakes at home and write a set of instructions.
  • Write a story set in an African setting.
  • Find out about fair trade foods.
  • Find out about food that comes from Africa.
  • Draw a picture based on something they have learnt about.
  • Research an African art style and have a go at re-creating a piece.

Spring Term 2nd Half

  • Design a healthy eating poster.
  • Design a healthy meal or sandwich.
  • Write some instructions to tell people how to make your favourite sandwich.
  • Research 10 facts about healthy eating and what makes up a balanced diet.
  • Write a story about living on a farm.
  • Write a diary about a day in the life of Charlotte, Fern or Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web.
  • Draw and label a farm picture.
  • Bake a healthy snack.

  • Research the Stone Age.
  • Find out what different rocks are used for.
  • Write a story about a Stone Age child.
  • Draw a picture relating to the Stone Age
  • Write a diary of your weekend.
  • Make a Stone Age dwelling.

 

Autumn Term 2nd Half

New spellings will be given each week with a weekly test.

You could check and rehearse spellings with your child ready to be tested on a Friday.

You could hear your child read and ask them questions about the text.

Project Tasks

  • Do some artwork including Polar Animals.
  • Make a fact file about a Polar Animal
  • Explore objects that use forces
  • Find out how magnets work and what they can be used for.
  • Write a story including information from our topic.

Project Tasks

This topic lasts for 8 weeks, in this time the children are expected to choose two activities from the list and complete with the help of their parents.  

 

 Design your own chocolate bar and write a product description.

 Make a persuasive poster to encourage someone to buy a chocolate bar. 

 Research where chocolate comes from and how it is made.

 Research fair trade and make a poster.

 Use chocolate to do some baking at home and share the recipe with us!
