Autumn Term 2nd Half
It has been another busy half term for year 3.
We kickstarted with our Polar Regions topic.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different animals that live in these areas.
In literacy we wrote a non chronological report about polar bears and practised our collaboration skills when creating posters about penguins. We looked at the features of the reports to make sure we had included the correct information.
Half way through the half term we were left some mysterious items and cryptic messages. This has lead to some wonderful story writing based on The story of Ivan and the Ice Palace. The children have developed their sentence types, looked at story language and openers and adding adjectives to make their stories more exciting.
In maths we have consolidated our understanding of basic multiplication and division. We have explored grouping and arrays. The children found this particularly tricky at first but worked really hard to secure their understanding. We also looked at the relationship between the two and how we can use them for different things.
We have also introduced the children to different measures and began looking at shape and perimeter.
Our Science has involved exploring forces, friction and magnets. In art we have developed our shading skills and looking at the shapes we need to help us draw.
Our reading skills are really developing. We have used comprehension ninja to improve our skimming and scanning skills. We have been spending a lot of time completing reading comprehensions as a class to practise how we can find answers and model using full sentences.
We are looking forward to another busy half term in the Spring and we can't wait to see the learning produced by our classes.
Autumn Term 1st Half
What a busy half term Year 3 have had.
We have spent time getting used to new rules and routines and we are really proud of how well everyone has settled in.
In maths we have spent a lot of time on understanding the value on numbers. We have looked at how adding and taking away 10 changes a number. We have learnt the formal written method of column addition and began practising our ever important times tables.
