Spring Term

Our topic was Worldwide Tales and we invited Kuda from Zimbabwe to come and talk to us about her experiences in Africa.  Kuda taught us a dance called ‘Making Melodies’, which involved us using some very unusual dance moves.  Kuda taught us how to say Good morning in Shona, one of the languages in Zimbabwe, ‘Mangwani’.  We also know that a lion is ‘shumba’; a giraffe is ‘twiza’.

We read the books ‘Walking through the Jungle’ and ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and drew our favourite wild animal from the stories. Our role play area in the den was an African village hut and children enjoyed re-enacting the stories. We all had the opportunity to taste a variety of fruit from Africa, including guava fruit juice.

Our parents have been helping the Clever Kittens to practise their creative skills making their own African rain maker for the Home Learning, which has been put on display in the corridor.  Well done everyone.

Sara Mushi (Goodbye) for now!

Spring 2, 2020 – Clever Kittens

This half term our topic theme has been about Superheroes, both imaginary and real life.

On World Book Day, Once upon a time at Redscope, we had an amazing time dressing up as a story book character and reading our favourite books together. We believe ‘Reading in our Superpower’.

In the home-corner the Clever Kittens dressed up as real life superheroes – Fire-fighters, Policemen, Doctors and Nurses and showed lots of interest in the different occupations. Fleur, Mia and Eddison took their play as Doctors and Nurses into the cloakroom area, taking it in turns to be the Doctor and patient. They used the available resources to create props to support their imaginative role play and were able to talk about and use a stethoscope appropriately.

Some boys and girls played our large Superhero Board Game, learning to take turns and use their mathematical skills to recognise numerals 1 to 10.

In Science week, we had a fabulous time with lots of fun activities. We had construction magnets, and magnets to investigate which objects were magnetic and which were non-magnetic. A table top was set out with light, colour and reflective resources. One of our favourite experiments was making ‘instant snow’ from powder to use in our Arctic small world.
