In summer 2 class 4 had the most amazing trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, we learned to classify different animals and hold some creepy creatures in our workshop.
The children loved the stories from the Tinga Tinga Tales and created the most beautiful artwork using pastels. We looked closely at different animal patterns and recreated these in clay.
We shared the story of the Great Kapok tree and retold this in Literacy, discussing the importance of the rainforest. What a fantastic way to end the year ! Well done class 4.
This term classes 3 & 4 have been learning all about Castles. The children loved exploring Conisbrough Castle. They participated in workshops and found out what life was like a long time ago. We wrote letters to the staff at the castle about all the things we enjoyed on our visit, and used our knowledge of castle to create acrostic poems. Our focus stories have been George and the Dragon and The Princess and the Wizard.
In Mathematics, we have been using the mastery approach to deepen the children’s understanding of number bonds and multiplication. We have encouraged the use of equipment, drawings, and noticing patterns and relationships. In addition to this, we have learned about capacity.
Children have continued their music lessons with Mrs Whiteley and have really enjoyed playing tuned and un-tuned instruments. Mechanisms have been the focus of our Design Technology lessons. Children were set an open task, and had to use a range of tools and equipment to investigate how to solve a problem before we explored mechanisms and pivots together. The dragon paintings created during art lessons are beautiful, and are on display for you to enjoy. During history lessons, we have explored what life was like for different groups of people a long time ago. We have discussed the differences in technology, medicine and home-life. Children had the opportunity to design a family crest and discussed what made their family special.
In PE we have introduced the daily mile in Year 1 and the children have thoroughly enjoyed this. We have continued with our Cosmic Yoga and are revisiting team games in preparation for sports day.
To complete this half term, we shared a series of lessons and activities about British Values , linking to other religions and celebrations. We celebrated the Royal wedding too!
Miss Jordan and Miss Warren are really excited to join their new classes as they head into Year 1. Miss Jordan is the class teacher in class 3 and Mrs Kime is the teaching assistant. In class 4, Miss Warren is the class teacher and Mrs Felvus is the teaching assistant. During our transition we spent time getting to know each other and the children created some fabulous work which is displayed in the classrooms for you to see. This half-term our Learning Journey is called 'Where have all the flowers gone?' it will consist of two mini topics all about change, change in ourselves as we grow from babies to adults and seasonal changes in the environment.
